Mato Uljarević’s animated short film “UROŠ” has been officially selected to compete in the prestigious Grand Competition – Short Film category at the World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb 2025.
The film pays tribute to artist Uroš Tošković through traditional stop-motion animation, with each frame meticulously hand-drawn using charcoal on paper. This analog approach helps capture the distinctive artistic style of Tošković himself, while the narrative weaves fantastic imagery into a biographical storyline.
“Uroš” is a joint production between Protos Film and Dok Production, with financial backing from the Film Center of Montenegro and Podgorica’s Secretariat for Culture. The creative team includes producers Miljan Vučelić, DaniloVujačić, and Mato Uljarević, voice actor Stefan Vuković, editor Dmitar Janjušević, sound designer Aleksandar Protić, and image post-production specialist Lazar Rašović.
Established in 1972, Animafest Zagreb stands as one of the world’s premier showcases for independent animation. This year’s selection committee included festival artistic director Daniel Šuljić alongside Sunčana Brkulj and Andrijana Ružić. The festival runs from June 2-7 in Zagreb.
