The world premiere of “Wondrous Is the Silence of My Master“, written and directed by Ivan Salatić, was held at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). The film was presented in the festival’s main competitive program, “Tiger Competition”.
Speaking to a packed audience at the Pathé cinema, the festival’s artistic director Vanja Kaludjerčić delivered a compelling introduction to the film. She described it as “a cinematic reflection on identity, displacement, and the enduring ties between individuals and the lands they call home.” She particularly praised Salatić’s masterful use of space, light, and color, noting how the film creates a world where “spoken words resonate like melodies.”

Produced by Meander Film, “Wondrous Is the Silence of My Master” received an enthusiastic response at its premiere. Producers Dušan Kasalica and Jelena Angelovski expressed their satisfaction: “We are delighted with the audience’s reaction and the film’s ongoing resonance among festival guests and critics, who have published positive reviews following the first screening. The film will continue its festival journey and will soon be presented to our domestic audience.”
Aleksandra Božović, managing director of the Film Centre of Montenegro, attended the premiere alongside numerous crew members. She emphasized the significance of this achievement: “Having a Montenegrin film in Rotterdam’s main program represents a significant milestone for our cinematography. Salatić’s film demonstrates that Montenegrin filmmakers can create works that resonate internationally and secure places at the world’s most prestigious festivals.”

Set in the 19th century, this historical drama follows Morlak, a poet and ruler of Brda, who embarks on a journey to the Mediterranean south in search of a cure for his fatal illness. Accompanied by his faithful servant Djuko, their expedition evolves into a profound exploration of duty, nostalgia, and the inevitability of fate.
The film features performances by Marko Pogačar, Luka Petrone, Vanja Matić, Vladimir Milošević, Igor Božanić, Tea Ljubešić, and Jakov Zovko.
